Meet Schar Kanouse!

Dr. Macik and Staff,
I am sending you a couple of pictures to share the biggest blessing that I have experienced in my life that I believe Dr. Macik and his staff had a very big part of. Over three years ago I met with Dr. Macik to discuss the option of bariatric surgery and see if it was an option for me. When I left there I had a very good understanding of all the details of the procedure along with all the qualifications that I had to go through, with the help of Tiffany. She was very helpful and very supportive every time (which there were several) I had called to see if the insurance had come through with an approval.

The day that Tiffany called to let me know that the insurance had finally gave me an approval letter, she sounded almost as excited as I did, and the journey for my second chance had begun.
On June 6th, 2006 I went in to have my surgery and even though I knew it would be a new beginning for my life it was the grace of god that I had such a great experience. I was blessed with a great doctor and staff, the surgery went great with no complications, from the hospital stay to the post operation follow ups, everything was nothing short of amazing.

I was one of those patients that wanted to be a success story, I followed the directions and menu's to a T. I started exercising as soon as I could walk even though the surgery pain was not totally gone, and continued everyday rain or shine. The one thing that Dr. Macik said to me that I think was a very big part of my life change was that "The habits you make the first 18 months will decide your long term success" I was determined to make eating healthy and exercising just as important in my life as brushing my teeth!

Today just short of three years later, I feel blessed to be able to exercise 3-5 times a week and my daily diet is so much different than it use to be. I eat to live, I do not live to eat anymore. I feel like a new person, so much more energy and the range of things I can do still amazes me today. I just finished my third 5k race and cant wait to do another and my goal is to run a 10k in the Peachtree race.

Thank you so very much for being part of a second chance for my new life!
